1000 W. Cherry St. is located several blocks north of the campus of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the Arbor District. The House is a classic Ranch built by an SIU faculty member in 1952. It received a Preservation Commendation from the City of Carbondale in 2005. It is sited diagonally on a lot facing the intersection of Cherry and James. The area is zoned R-1, residential, which according to the Carbondale Code means no more than two unrelated people may live on the premises.
